Trekking and mountain bikes

All the villages of the Community are separated by short distances (an average of 2 or 3 Kms) and communicated by all kinds of roads. This allows us to design different routes for each user.  As a sample, the following eight routes (fist four are designed for trekking and rest for mountain bikes):

• Aureliana Route: 15 kms. • Ruta de la sierra . 35 Kms. Por la carretera de la Salceda a Segovia y a tres kilómetros de la Velilla, se hace obligado parar en la románica ermita de la Virgen de Las Vegas para admirar su traza, su singular atrio ligado al cantar del Mío Cid y sus pinturas policromas en proceso de restauración; data del siglo XI y es una de las más antiguas de Segovia. • Ruta del Valle de Santágueda . 22 Kms. Sale hacia Pajares y en la raya con Arahuetes tuerce a la izquierda, por un camino recién abierto por la concentración parcelaria, hasta avistar el valle del río Santágueda; fértil hondonada de laderas calizas surcada por múltiples manantiales de agua cristalina que dan origen al río. Allí, fresnos, choperas, zargateras, una vegetación espesa, verde y frondosa, contrasta con los áridos enebrales y encinares que la circundan. Recorriendo el valle cuesta trabajo encontrar palabras que lo describan: ...microclima, ...naturaleza virgen, ...ecosistema, no son términos que lo definan satisfactoriamente ¿... acaso paraiso? ¡Sí! ¡Paraiso, sí!.

  

  Valle de Santágueda

  Se reemprenderá la marcha teniendo siempre delante la panorámica diáfana de la Sierra de Guadarrama, hasta Requijada, luego hasta Santiuste, volviendo a La Velilla, no sin antes hacer un alto en la ermita de Las Vegas, para tomar un merecido descanso a la sombra de su atrio.

• Ruta del Norte . 20 Kms. Algo totalmente distinto. La ruta más dura, con pendientes que agotan todos los platos y todos los piñones. Se cae a primera hora de la mañana en Pajares, pueblo más temeroso del Cega que de Dios; sus aguas lo han tenido sentenciado por la construcción de un pantano varias décadas y todos los años el nivel de las crecidas se cierne amenazando al vecindario (hace tres años hubo que evacuar casi todo el pueblo). ¡Quién lo diría! viendo a las truchas, en el remanso del pozo del puente, patrullando con languidez, pausadamente, solazándose con los primeros rayos mañaneros. Se impone reanudar la marcha y es aconsejable hacer acopio de sombra al pasar bajo las choperas de Pajares; se echarán de menos en los desérticos kilómetros que se avecinan, especialmente entre Rebollo y la Matilla. Subiendo cuestas convendrá no entretenerse pues cuanto más alto el sol, mayor será su rigor y no habiendo ni una sombra en dos leguas a la redonda deseará el ciclista, a falta de zarzas y arbustos, que lo trague la tierra. El contraste lo ofrecerá Valleruela de Pedraza; junto a su ermita de la Virgen del Amparo;excelente mirador que incitará a detener la marcha y refrescarse bajo la espesa sombra de los enebros centenarios que rodean a la ermita; allí, en los primeros días de septiembre, la gente celebra la festividad de su Virgen, en una tradicional y vistosa romería, al son de la gaita, el tamboril y los palotes de los danzantes.
